Failed lifters and pushrods. Warranty company is covering all but the $50 deductible. Going to go back to Carmax to try to get the other $140 back from them directly since they warranty their repairs and an oil didn’t straighten out a pushrod. The bad though? Lifters for a 2006 Hemi are on back order. And the last time it took them six weeks to get the parts.

So between a fatal accident, selling my Corvair for $500 (it went to a guy who is going to treat it right though), and my truck being down for in upwards of three months, we went from a six car family to a three car family in about a month’s time. Can 2018 just freaking end already ?!

I seem to remember there was an issue with the valvetrain on certain 5.7s.  I think I remember it being something about the guides failing and grinding the crap out of the cam.

At least the $2k I paid on the warranty is about to come in DeMuro style.

early Hemis had two known issues IIRC- dropped valve seats, and breaking of the retainer which keeps the roller lifters aligned.

Wait what? 05038786AC isn’t on backorder. Neither is 05038784AC. Those are the two lifter-and-yoke assemblies for the 5.7 (non-Magnum and Magnum respectively.) Pushrods aren’t B/O either.

Tell them to quit trying to cheap out with non-OE lifter-only repair and use the OE part. Then tell them to root cause it, because either the pushrod failed and that’s the end of it, or you’ve got an oiling problem starving the lifters.

Thats the one, the retainer. Seems like FCA’s been having a tough time with valve trains lately, what with the press on cam gear on the ecodiesel being a problem as well.

Guide fail on certain models due to oil starvation (I can’t remember which,) a known risk with valve cover leaks, and MDS 5.7's have more solenoid problems than a 545RFE at 100k past fluid interval.

This is a Dodge dealer doing the repair on this one, so I’m assuming they aren’t trying to cheap out. VIN 1D7HA16276J1 43518

Dealers use aftermarket parts all the time. Especially when it’s a cheapskate warranty company - they get to dictate the parts. My decoder pegs it as an EZB/DGQ combo on the broadcast . The lifters that are backordered are for EZ A code.

Have them double check the plate, just because FCA’s fucked all kinds of things up. But the DC records were generally really good. Other problem is the parts numbering. It’s 8784AC, 8785AC, 8786AC, 8788AC depending on engine code EZA, EZB, EZC. You see the problem?

Never made a damn bit of sense to me why they changed from G24/GV24/GVS24.

I think it was mostly the 03-04 Rams that had the problems with dropped valves. I think that issue at least was fixed pretty quick.

The other stuff, I’m too sure about.

Nope, it’s all the 3.7/4.7's. They sludge, they drop valves, the lifters collapse, they crack the heads, they cook the coolant, they cook the transmission, there’s no end to the problems with those engines.

The 5.7 Hemi’s an evolution of the LA block and basically has NO real problems except for the early MDS solenoids. No lifter problems outside of mechanical causes. Same exact lifters as in your 5.7 for the EZB code.

Confirmed it’s an EZB, yet they don’t have an ETA for the parts yet.

For FUCK’S SAKE. Even Chrysler  didn’t fuck up the parts system this bad.

Well, I seem to have gotten lucky. Last part should be in tomorrow. So hopefully I’ll get my truck back at the end of the week.

Given FCA’s track record of late, I expect it will last a week before breaking again.

So...12 days of hooness?

12 skid marks

11s on the asphalt

10 second burnouts

9 corners drifted

8 figures made

7 cylinders firing

6 lugnuts broken

5 weeks for parts!

4 gears not shifting

3 trips to the shop

2 hours waiting

for the tow truck to show up out front.

Oh my god. This response deserves an Oppo post of it’s own so I can give it more stars.
